Wes Kovacs

Introducing Captain Wes Kovacs, callsign 304. Wes has been with CCFD since March 2017. He has risen through the ranks from probationary Fire Fighter to Captain.
Wes is trained in an array of Fire Fighting. He has certificates in NFPA 1001 Full Service, Fire Officer 1 NFPA 1021, Driver and Pump Operator NFPA 1002, Incident Safety Officer NFPA 1521, Wildfire Suppression, Engine Boss, Sprinkler Protection, Wildfire Train the Trainer and Viera Trainer and Evaluator. Wes has served on the Health and Safety, as well as Way and Means (organizing events) committees. He is on the medical team. Wes has been on multiple wildfire deployments: Takysie Lake 2018, Lytton 2021, White Rock Lake 2021, West Kelowna 2023
Wes has an all in attitude, with a high attendance on calls, training and events. He will always attend extra courses to expand his knowledge and train others. He pushes for positive change through improving training and safety within the department.
Wes is the Administrator for the Cherry Creek Waterworks. When not occupying himself with work and fire fighting, he is enjoys hanging out with his Son, backroad quading and video games.
Wes says “I love being a firefighter because it offers a unique blend of camaraderie, purpose, and personal growth. Training my peers and witnessing their development is incredibly rewarding; seeing someone go from a novice to a skilled team member reaffirms my own skills and passion. Being surrounded by friends who have shared dedication and enthusiasm for this rewarding field. Together, we face challenges head-on, continually learning and growing both individually and as a team.”
